Les Devoirs de 9B le 1 Juin.

Bonjour Students and Parents of 9B :)

As you know we are currently working on individual oral presentations for French class which begin June 9th. Students are to present a 2-4 minute presentation on a topic of their choice using a French vocabulary except for proper nouns and/or if students are performing a song, the song itself could be in English. The presentation should be informative with a personal aspect as well. So, the students will tell the class about something and make a personal connection with what they are presenting.

There is no written evaluation for this assignment but if students are showing slides or creating posters as part of their visual then they must proofread their work. The students have this rubric.

Students are required to have three different visual aids. Some suggestions are: slidehows, props, costumes, posters, pictures, demonstrations, video clips etc. Students are responsible to test their technology well before the presentations. If students are using slideshows they must be emailed to me to avoid the logging in on and logging out of accounts which takes up to 5 minutes between each presentation.

In order to prepare students for the reality of high school and work life, I will not be granting extensions on this assignment barring emergency situations. If students are absent on the day they are due to present, they will be deducted marks in accordance with the late assignment policy. Furthermore, they will be required to present on their lunch hour or possibly after exams depending on my availability during lunch hours (due to lunchtime supervision and extra help).

Parents can be of great assistance to this project by providing reminders and time at home to work on this project, asking their child to practice the presentation several times with a timer and their technology. The rubric for this assignment evaluates students pronunciation, use of French vocabulary, body language and intonation. This presentation should be dynamic and energetic (not read from pages of notes or from the slideshow). Recipe cards, with jot notes are allowed. So far students have had two full periods in the library and they are scheduled for 1 more on Friday:)

The following is a schedule of presentation times:

Le jeudi 9 juin jour 6 5ième période : Laura, Dominique, Gary, Stephen, Sam L,
Rachel
Le vendredi 10 juin jour 1 4ième période : Megan, Jackson R, Bethany, Paige,

Devoirs de 9B Le 6 Avril.

It was a great success with the big poster!

Parents are reminded that this week and next students will be getting lots of information about registration for Grade 10. On Friday, April 8th, there will be no classes for grade 9 students. Instead, grade nine students, with at least one parent or guardian, will have a scheduled time (between 9-3) to come to the Stonepark library and officially register for grade 10.

As well, Stonepark will be hosting its annual fundraiser "Stonepark Gives Back" in support of our school in Kenya, the Charlottetown Food Bank, and the Stonepark Healthy food program. This concert is on April 7th in the afternoon for the students and we are offering an evening concert for the larger community that evening, April 7th, from 7-8:30pm in the Stonepark gym. Each class has a 250 dollar target to meet to earn entrance into the concert. Any donation from home would be greatly appreciated :)

Example of Budget reflection:

Exemplaire d'une réflexion de budget

Nom Mme. Carmichael

Today we began our economics unit. We did a group reading activity today that we will be finishing in class tomorrow which introduces how our ever changing culture is changing the Atlantic Region from a natural resource based economy to an information driven economy. Towards the end of this week, we will be looking at personal economy and creating a personal budget. If you have any Superstore or Sobeys flyers at home, these would be useful for a class activity.

I suggested in class today that for Social Studies review, each evening students should write down what we did in class that day and review the relevant notes and page numbers.

Have a great night!

Bonjour parents et élèves de 9B!

Exams and Storms

Students are presently writing their first set of exams and all seems to be going well:)

Please note that if there is a storm tomorrow, exams are moved to Friday, January 28th. If there is a one hour delay exams go ahead as usual. If the weather is fine then Friday, January 28th, is a regular school day.

Quebec/Ottawa

Please remember that those coming to Quebec must be at Stonepark by 5:30 a.m. on Monday morning, January 31st, 2011. If there is a cancellation or disruption of our departure or return, the Stonepark Blog will have that information. Also, on our first travel day students should pack some snacks and something to drink. We will be making some pit stops, but many students may not have had a chance to eat breakfast before getting on the bus, and may be hungry an hour into the trip. Please remember that All products should be nut free.

If your son or daughter is not coming to Quebec, you will be receiving an email regarding the expectation for those students.

Bonne journée à tous et toutes!
